Gear slots
We wanted to create something that would handle a couple of different roles, with obviously your equipment slots for what we call a "paper doll", which is that display of your character. Eventually it won't just be a image of your character, we hope to have the 3D character and be able to rotate around, look at what you're wearing. And then we wanted to support a couple of different features here, with some base stats; the equipment, which will show what equipment you have available to quick swap, so you don't have to have your inventory and the screen open; detailed stats for those people who want to get into all of the details; and then of course gear sets. So this is going to be able to swap to your sets of gear quickly; and being able to save different loadouts.[4] – Colby Marchi
There are multiple gear slots in Ashes of Creation.[4]
- 3 Belt slots.[4]
- 1 Mainhand slot equips a player's primary weapon.[8][9][10][11][7]
- 1 Offhand slot can equip shields, spell focuses, sigils, and dual weapons.[12][7]
- 1 Potion/Pouch/Scroll slot.[6][13]
- 8 Armatura slots.[4][14]
- 5 Jewelry slots.[4]
- 1 Undergarment slot is used to equip artisan gear.[4][22]
- There may be a specific slot for musical instruments, but this has not been finalized yet.[23]
- Previously it was stated there were 16 gear slots.[14]
- Gear is not subject to inventory weight limits.[24]
Jewelry
Jewelry is a type of Armatura in Ashes of Creation.[25]
- Jewelry will offer both vertical and horizontal power progression.[3]

Mount barding
Mount barding (also referred to as Saddles) is armor for mounts in Ashes of Creation. Mount barding is similar in concept to player armor.[28]
- The higher the level of barding, the better looking it will be.[28]
- Barding will have multiple components that can be equipped. Each component will increase the stats of the mount, such as hit points and speed.[29][28]
- Barding cosmetics can only be applied to mounts with barding cosmetic slots.[30]
- Cosmetic skins may only be applied to barding/saddle items that are earned in-game.[31]
- Barding skins can not be applied over a mount skin.[32]
- The mount skins are applied to the mount, and barding (think of it like an accessory appearance) can not be applied over the mount skin.[32] – Cody Peterson

Attachments
Attachments are able to be unlocked as flair pieces to armor to create a customizable look.[33]
- There will be hundreds of attachments available ranging from a small clasp to the front plate of a breast plate.[33]
