Character limits (slots)

There will be character limits during the Alpha and Beta testing phases. These are probably going to be more relaxed than for live launch.[10]

  • Allow testing of different builds as needed.[10]
  • Provide equipment needed to test various scenarios.[10]

There will be a "comfortable" number of character slots on launch.[2]

Player housing and alts

Node citizenship and alts

Node citizenship.[20][18]

Citizenship is, aside from nodes existing, one of the most important parts. So you as a player will get to become a citizen of these nodes: you're going to need to acquire some form of housing to be able to do that within that node's jurisdiction, it's zone of influence.[18]Chris Justo

Player housing grants the ability to claim citizenship of a Village (fase 3) node or higher.[20][18][21][22][23] Gaining citizenship through player housing is not automatic. It must be claimed.[21]

When you become a citizen you enter in at a certain citizenship due structure; and citizens pay taxes to their node in the form of both property taxes based on what type housing as well as citizenship dues, which are necessary. And as you enter later into the stage of a node's development, you will pay a higher value on the citizenship dues or vice-versa: if you own a property later, you will be entered into a property tax that is higher based on where you enter that property ownership within the node's history. So those help to form a soft cap. Now, if payers are willing to pay more to be a citizen of a particular node, they have that option, but at some point it becomes restrictive.[25]
  • A player can only claim citizenship to one node at a time.[21][26]
You can declare citizenship to only one node and when you declare that citizenship. Let's say for example, one guild perhaps wanting to take all their members and have them all declare the same citizenship to a location. The longer a node exists the higher the prize it is to take and some systems with regards to crafting progression and/or rewards and bonuses or the reliquary that we haven't really touched on a lot, those systems are going to be so enticing that from an incentive standpoint it will compel other groups to either potentially break alliances or siege the city in order to take the goods that are potentially in it. So, from an incentive standpoint we have that at play. Additionally, we don't have a cap per-se that we've announced yet on the citizenship aspect of being in a node, but we do have soft caps. It becomes costlier the higher number of citizens each time one new person wants to join to be part of a node. So, there is sort of a soft cap on how many citizens one node can have and it might be that not all in the guild can participate in that area. So, there's a natural divide: A pseudo faction, so to speak between who is a part of that node and who is not.[25]Steven Sharif
Your account is bound to one declared citizenship per server, which means that if you have two alts and your main character on one server you may only be a citizen of one node between those three... If you have an alt on a different server, it could be a citizen of a node as well.[29]Steven Sharif

  • Citizenship tickets may also grant citizenship to certain node stages. This mechanic will be decided based on testing.[34]
  • A player does not need to declare citizenship of any node. These players won't need to pay taxes but will miss out on benefits of citizenship.[35]

Artisan classes and alts

I giocatori dovranno scegliere, per ogni personaggio, una carriera nell'albero delle abilità dell'artigianato.[36] All'interno di ognuna delle tre classi madri (Raccolta, Elaborazione e Crafting) sono presenti diverse professioni. Un personaggio può arrivare ad un livello di maestria in soltanto una di queste tre classi principali.[37][9][38][39]

  • È possibile padroneggiare più professioni (non tutte) all'interno di una singola classe madre, ma sarà un'impresa lunga che necessiterà molte risorse.[37][39][40]
    • Un giocatore può diventare esperto una professione soltanto se ha raggiunto il livello massimo della classe madre.[41]
    • Basandosi sul testing, potrebbe essere deciso di limitare i certificati di padroneggiamento ad un numero limitato.[41][42]

L'estrazione è una classe madre dell'artigianato, come la lavorazione e la produzione. All'interno di ognuna sono presenti diverse professioni. Potrai padroneggiare soltanto una di queste classi madre; ma potrai utilizzare il tuo tempo per padroneggiare ogni singola professione all'interno della classe.[39]Steven Sharif

Diventare un Produttore professionista, o un Lavoratore o un Estrattore dovrebbe essere un significativo investimento di tempo e risorse; per questo motivo dovrebbe anche essere qualcosa che una volta raggiunto è come se le persone nel server sappiano chi sei.[43]Steven Sharif

La progressione dell'artigianato all'intero dell'albero delle abilità avviene basandosi sull'esperienza (ripetizione di incarichi) e sul raggiungimento di determinati obiettivi all'interno di una specialità.[44]

  • I giocatori possono dedicarsi a qualsiasi professione come novizi prima di deciderne una specifica.[45]
  • Scegliere un percorso specifico all'interno dell'albero delle abilità permette al giocatore di specializzarsi in determinate aree. Questo incoraggia l'interazione tra giocatori, arricchendo l'esperienza nell'artigianato.[46]
  • Il raggiungere un livello di maestria non riguarda soltanto la creazione di oggetti; garantisce molti privilegi, tra cui titoli, accesso ad oggetti, sconti, e missioni. [47]

I giocatori avranno l'opportunità di dilettarsi in qualsiasi professione ad un livello principiante e questo gli darà la possibilità di capire cosa riguarda una determinata professione e di poi scegliere che direzione vogliono prendere per padroneggiarne una in particolare.[45]Steven Sharif

Quando ci riferiamo al non essere esperto di tutto non significa che non sarai professionista nella tua delle tre classi di artigianato, che sono, come sapete, produzione, lavorazione ed estrazione. Sarai professionista di una di queste, ma non delle altre due.[38]Steven Sharif

Player to player trading

There is player-to-player trading in Ashes of Creation.[48][49][50][51]

Q: Will Ashes of Creation have player-to-player trading? Will there be anything stopping me from gifting a friend that's fresh to the game a bunch of in-game money to help them get on their feet quickly?

The nature of player to player trading already introduces that in an open economy game... that is why we have measures to attempt and heat flag suspicious transactions, active gms and other honeypot systems/agents that will be active in discovering those types of cheaters.[49]Steven Sharif

Banking

Nodes advance to the first stage quickly. This enables NPC services such as vending or banking items.[59]

Account management

Ashes of Creation web site design preview (WIP).[62]

The account management page is used to assign or reassign cosmetics to characters within an account.[6][63][7][8]

  • Cosmetics can be reassigned to other characters (alts), but can only be active on one character at a time.[6][7][8]
  • There will likely be a cooldown for reassigning cosmetics between characters.[6]
